If you are working for a sort of "strict" or shall we say "old-style" company then you may not even be aware that MANY companies allow to bring your dog to work:
Allow? A dog friendly workplace will ENCOURAGE staff to have dogs at work! And not just dogs at amazon, no.
Simple: When you don't worry what your dog is doing all day, you are more productive. Your higher productivity benefits your company.
Not in every case, no. Some dog owners - and way more dogless tenants (excuse the pun) - don't want dogs in the office. Some dog owners not even their own dog.
"What??", dog lovers may now be wondering, "why not take dogs to work to fight dog sickness cause No. 3 for free: boredom!?".
Should dogs be allowed in the office?
The reasons for disagreement on the topic "office dog - dogs at work" nails down to these core objections:
Some dogless staff concentrate less with dogs @work, they feel distracted. Usually this lasts only a couple of weeks at most, until all staff got used to dogs @work.
A great example story comes from Christina Najjar.
Reason No. 2 relates to hygiene: Many dogs just aren't fully house-trained because the dog owner learned from books and blogs and dog TV docus that housebreaking = potty training is all one can do, or all one needs to do.
But you are just ONE employee and your colleagues haven't got a clue?
And finally key reason No. 3 relates to smell: Even dogless tenants know that after a rain shower in a heated room most dogs smell worse than their worst colleague after a 20 miles "team building" hike.
Dealing with objections to Office Dogs
You guessed it! There are of course easy solutions to each and every objection:
Company policies should ONLY allow dogs @work that are MYGERMANSHEPHERD.ORG Behavior Trained: It is distracting when dog owners need to command or lure their dog to "obedience"!
Complete House Training has dogs behave well in any house, including the office.
My German Shepherd Miguel is a great example: Someone trained My German Shepherd to habitually behave the same ("well") regardless if the owner is around or not.
There is no need for commands or lure, and so no need for distraction of office colleagues.
A chamois does wonders to drying a dog after a rain shower and taking "the smell" out.
One cannot "get the smell out" when what's being fed to the dog smells so bad that any dogless colleague may pass out upon mere nose contact.
(I dog owner do not pass out anymore but the concentrated stench of an open kibble bag can make me vomit)
To help fight office dog smell, feeding REAL foods only is the way to go.
So really, IF all dog-owning staff have been educated by The Cynology Hub MyGermanShepherd.Org and so they and their dog benefit from
then all objections to office dogs fade away.
Dog Friendly Companies?
In these ueber difficult times I cannot possibly create another directory, this time of businesses that allow office dogs in their company policy.
But Top Dog Tips published a shortlist of the 35 most dog-friendly offices in the USA.
Given, you can't easily change your job to work for one of those just 35 "top" companies. But if you really want, you'll find one locally that's not in that shortlist.
And for your pleasure, below you see my favorite "office dog" pics.
Send your boss the link to this page and it may just as well convince your senior management soon to allow dogs at work too. Certainly if subject to our three solutions above.
