Breeding Prerequisites

breeding dog or not

With so many unwanted dogs being euthanized we all should act responsibly, and so if you consider to breed your dog note that any dog breeding should meet these prerequisites:

1Both breeding dogs are in TOP health, there is NO defect whether inherited or acquired, NO disorder, and NO disease. And never has been one. In TOP health. In particular:

dog defect

2good temperament dogBoth breeding dogs have a TOP temperament.

3desired puppiesAll the puppies (might well be 10!) are sought-after, none will end up in a shelter or worse.

Prerequisite #1 and #2 ensure that the offspring is both health- and behavior-wise desirable, and prerequisite #3 ensures that every dog is desired.

    Hi Tim,
Breeding a good German Shepherd takes a lot of time and effort. Unfortunately there are plenty of breeders out there who don't care about anything but the money they could make. I, personally, would not buy a dog from a start up breeder or someone who has not yet built up a good reputation in the field. Most breeders in an area know each other, and a good place to get a reliable breeder is from a German Shepherd club or on recommendation from someone who has a good German Shepherd themselves.

All of your points are well taken and I would suggest that point 3 also include that the breeder also does his or her own homework and get referrals for every person who takes one of their dogs. This way they know that their dogs are being brought up properly and are being used (and not abused) the right way.
